Legitimate work from home businesses do exist, believe it or not! The frustrating part is finding one. Millions of people have been victims of scams. Scammers have made literally millions of dollars from their victims.
It is difficult to differentiate a genuine home based business opportunity from the vast amount of scams online. Many people do not realize that the scams manifest in many different guises. The ones that promise to do all the work while you relax and make thousands of dollars a day only working a few hours a week, should immediately raise a red flag. Beware of the wording they use in their sales pitch, such as:
Make thousands per day only working 90 minutes per day - work in your pajamas - work from your holiday home - fire your boss - attain financial freedom - retire early. These marketers understand that buying a product is driven by human emotions and by instilling hope, they do just that by capitalizing on your needs.
A scam is a scam and the most common scams in circulation in no particular order are:
- Envelope Stuffing - This is the one that is in almost every classified ad I have seen.
- Craft Assembly is one way that gullible people are being duped. The home crafter is encouraged to assemble toys, dolls, teddy bears, jewelry, flowers, pot pourrie sachets, aprons, baby burp mats and the list is endless. They are required to purchase a start up kit of the necessary materials, with the understanding that they will purchase the completed items back from you. After considerable time and expense, the home worker is told that due to 'quality control' requirements the goods are not up to standard specifications and are rejected.
It is wise to investigate each and every home business opportunity and save yourself from being scammed. Do not be afraid to to ask other people's opinions. These are some of the checks you can carry out before committing yourself to a program:
- Contact your Better Business Bureau (BBB)
- Type the name of the business opportunity into your search engine and review
- The type the name of the business opportunity into your search engine and scam
- Disclaimer - It is always wise to read the company's "Disclaimer" at the bottom of the home page, which more often than not reads something like this:"The figures on this site are for illustration purposes only and are in no way a reflection of what you may or may not earn. There is no guarantee that you will make these levels of income. Results will vary and will be based on your individual capacity, experience and desire. The testimonials and examples used are exceptional results, which do not apply to the average purchaser, and are not intended to represent or guarantee that anyone will achieve the same, or similar results. Each individual's success depends on his or her dedication, desire and motivation. We cannot guarantee your future results and success". This example of a company disclaimer is an indication that the claims of easy work from home business opportunities are not always what they are portrayed to be and have obviously been grossly exaggerated.
